outsmart Matthew Short in the first ODI between Pakistan and Australia? How did Shaheen Afridi
Pakistan’s left arm pace bowler Shaheen Afridi had a fantastic start to the Australia ODIs, as he was able to bag the first wicket of the series for his country against Australia. Shaheen got the first over of the match for Pakistan and was able to take the biggest wicket of the match, that of Matthew Short, who got out for just 1 run.
How did the battle between Shauheen Afridi and Matthew Short pan out?
This took place in the third over of the Australian innings. After they managed to stop the visitors from crossing the two hundred mark, the score being two hundred and three. As the Australian innings had begun with Jake Fraser McGurk and Matthew Short, they aimed to take on the Pakistanis aggressive pace attack first. But Shaun was able to take Short out very early in the game.
Shaheen Afridi bowled from the wicket and delivered a back of the length ball slightly outside off stump, whereas Matthew Short went for an overly aggressive shot over mid-wicket but only to edge it loftily, making it easy for Saim Ayub, the Pakistani ODI debutant, to take a simple catch.
How Did Matthew Short Fall at the Hands of Shaheen Afridi?
Shaheen Afridi had an insight that Short loves to play lofted shots over the leg because of his height.
Take note, he toyed with Short as he reversed the mental challenge by asking him to play his best shot. The bowler performed according to his prowess, in his case a hard length for a right hander and also angled it slightly to bring out a straighter arm throw.
As Pakistani bowler multiplayer popularised the nonexistent pull shot with his feet, Ayub made no mistakes, and he was inside the inner ring as the ball flew off his bat's edge.
