Rahul and Jurel will leave early for Australia to participate in the second A game
Their intention is to secure some match practice before the five-test series that starts on November twenty-second.
KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, two Indian international cricketers, will touch down on the Australian soil a week in advance from the rest of the members of the Indian Test side in order to gain some game time before the five-match test series that is starting from November 22 in Perth.
In the upcoming match, Jurel and Rahul are set to play for the India A side that has Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain. They are expected to play the second and last four-day test that will kick off on the 7th of November at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The first match against India A was played in Mackay and ended in defeat by 7 wickets after the final day was statistically affected by a ball change scandal, whereas Ishan Kishan was involved in a heated dispute with the on-field umpire but was able to avoid a dissent allegation.
Rahul was omitted from the record as for the Indian XI after its loss to New Zealand in the first test match held in Bengaluru, where he did not score runs in both innings; the batsman only made runs of 12. The second and third matches that were available to him—he was replaced by Shubman Gill—were useless as India was defeated 3-0 in India for the first time in 24 years.
As Pant got back into the fray, Jurel made his Test debut, wowing everyone with his explosive batting against England in India’s series against England earlier this year. After March, he played quite a few competitive matches—one Duleep Trophy match before the accumulated Irani Cup last month and twice with the red ball that was after the England series. When he played in the Duleep Trophy, he did not fare quite so well, scoring a low 2 and 0, however, he turned that around when he played against Mumbai and scored a rather brilliant knock of 93 off just 121 balls.
The decision taken by the coaching staff and the management of sending both of them early so that they can get some match practice is quite prudent considering the fact that since the Indian team cancelled their one warm-up intrasquad match for the purpose of match simulation, the team was cancelled.
"Why not? We are leaving with 19 players and we only have three days in our hand. The game need minimum of preparation and workload," he said to media before departing the hotel on Sunday.
"Let's look at it this way: would it be preferable in management's opinion to have a match simulation in which the batters would spend depressingly lots of time in the Middle and the bowlers would be able to bowl a lot of deliveries... That is something we, as a team, feel more comfortable doing instead of playing a practice game because game time is not an issue
The Indian team, in a brief period, plans to leave for Australia on November 10 and would also do some training at the old venue in Perth, the WACA, before the first match of the series at the Optus Stadium, which they last played on 2018-19 tour, which they won with a tally of 2-1.
That match is likely to see the Indian team sans Rohit, as he is said to be unavailable for personal reasons, Direct replacement for him in the squad is Abhimanyu Easwaran, who had scores of 7 and 12 in the first A game after coming back from four first-class hundreds, hence the beginning of the Indian domestic season, unless they change the batting order.
