Batting star concurs with MCG officials' request to donate his bat used in the T20 World Cup 2022 final
Karachi: The former captain of Pakistan, Babar Azam, has now entered the ranks of cricketing greats as his bat has now been housed in the Long Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
This collection also contains bats given by the likes of Don Bradman, David Boon, Jack Hobbs, and Brian Lara.
One of the unique requests that the MCG management extended to Azam was his donation of the bat he used in the final against England during Pakistan's 2022 T20 World Cup finals, which he did.
The renowned batsman recalls that this is his personal dream, especially because he is making such an achievement on the MCG, which is one of the revered cricket fields across the globe.
“To be able to use the same bat that I used to play in a World Cup final means a lot to me, so yes, this is an emotional moment. But I am at least glad it’s going home with me,” Azam told the media after giving his equipment at the MCG long room on Friday.
“MCG holds a great place in my heart and has been the greatest venue of my career... it is an honour for me to have my bat placed beside those of great players.”
His gesture echoes with cricketing history at the MCG, where Australian and world cricket stars have added their bats to the collection.
Babar recently resigned as the captain of the Pakistan whiteball team and was succeeded by Mohammad Rizwan. He also missed out on the test squad for the two Tests against England.
