PAK vs AUS: Pakistan's pace attack rattles Australian batting lineup in second ODI
Pakistan’s choice to go for the chase after hitting for the toss meant Australia were left at 131 with the loss of 8 wickets after 30 overs where the quicks took their toll on the side. Australia on a green-tinged Adelaide on Friday struggled to settle in as they kept losing soft wickets courtesy of Pakistan’s star-studded pace-battery, with Haris and Rauf leading the charge. Winning the toss allowed the team to chase easily while enjoying the pitch conditions where Rauf was informed on the day. After taking a lead in the 3-match Pakistan ODI series with 1-0. Australia set themselves to Australia and improved, adding two runs to their score. The duo of Glenn Maxwell and Marnus Labuschagne were removed by Haris Rauf on consecutive balls. Glenn went on to make 26 runs before being dismissed and the dangerous Steven Smith came next for Aaron Hardie, who Rauf also got out for 121/6 Smith was out for 67, meaning Rauf continued to get wickets. The spell that rattled the game in favor of Pakistan was Rauf's, where he delivered 4/67. His first ball stunned the audience as Josh Inglis edged the ball onto his glove in the gloves where Rauf had already played; this ball helped Inglis remove his foe. Rauf did not stop there and went on to devastate Marnus, who had only scored single digits with his jaw-dropping seam-up ball. Sharjeel Shah Afridi had a chance to dominate with the ball as well, and he took two vital wickets. When he bowled Jake Fraser-McGurk (21/1) it was on the back of swing and seam movement, while his delivery to Matt Short, which caught Babar Azam at cover, marked the score to 41/2. Some critical breakthroughs of the middle order came from Afridi, who ended up with figures of 2/41. It was an excellent opportunity for Pakistan to come back, and after all of the baller magic, the table was finally reversed at 121/6 when Pakistan finally got their chance to pounce. But that was with Josh Hazlewood making his reappearance within the Australian side, and even then the Pakistani side once again managed to level the ball with the likes of Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah. When the Pakistan cricket team captain decided to toss the coin first and inserted the opposition side into bat on a green surface where all was packed with pace, he abstained from making an unfathomable decision to go with a specialist spinner in turn. Never the less, this was a master stroke, as they were able to constrict tame ideas of Australia while simultaneously bowling at fast speeds. It looks like the visiting team is going to have the same unchanged side simply because their last match has seen the pacers performing brilliantly and therefore aims at putting up a sizeable score. Australia advanced in the series looking sharp with their seam and swing, but now they are going to have a tough challenge in stepping into an even greater match. The second ODI will take into account the absence of certain key Test players in the likes of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, as they only look towards the upcoming series against India, which has left Australia exposed, and this is something that Pakistan will try to take advantage of.
