A huge 85 lakh Indians banned on WhatsApp
As reported, bans to accounts and user complaints were forwarded by WhatsApp to the Government of India for the month of September 2024. The report further stated that the company was flooded with complaints and consumer calls for help and had received around 8,161 complaints in the month range of September 1 to September 30.
While acquiring all of this information, the Government Bureau of Communication and Rule of Law showed that the complaints were tilting towards a ban appeal, with 3,744 appealing against the sanctions imposed on their accounts.
This therefore leads to the question, What happened to my account, and why am I unable to access it? This shows an alarming trend in the number of worries a user has every time they make an account, reaching to around 97 who were banned or reinstated depending on the complaints made during this time period. During this time, suspensions of accounts reached new levels, while there were a few who were reinstated as well.
This slightly goes hand in hand with reports released earlier, which had put the figure of users lost in the month of September at 8.6 million across India, with the first half of the month showing over a million accounts being suspended proactively without any complaints being forwarded by the consumers, making the final figure 1.6 million.
